Energy Transition Vulnerability Index (ETVI) for 135 countries from 2010 to 2020<\/strong><\/h1>\n

Abstract<\/strong>: The COP28 agreement signals \u201cbeginning of the end\u201d of the fossil fuel era, calling on countries to contribute to global efforts to transition away from fossil fuels in energy systems in a just, orderly and equitable manner. While a quantitative assessment of country\u2019s vulnerability in energy transition is a prerequisite for national and international policy makers to ensure a just and inclusive transition, it is notably absent in the existing research.<\/p>\n

Here, we present an Energy Transition Vulnerability Index (ETVI)<\/u><\/strong> to assess differences in energy transition vulnerability across countries, with a specific focus on the challenges associated with transitioning away from fossil fuels. Our index covers 135 countries from 2010 to 2020. The conceptual framework of ETVI is based on the Vulnerability Scoping Diagram (VSD) method. When properly applied and updated, the ETVI can help guide just and equitable energy transition pathways toward achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. The insights derived from the ETVI will support global and national efforts in monitoring the energy transition toward a low-carbon future and provide valuable guidance for developing more effective and equitable energy transition policies.<\/p>\n
