The Sixth ISETS Energy Transition Forum

Global Resource Risk Governance in the Post-Epidemic Era

On November 12, the 6th ISETS Energy Transition Forum was successfully held. The forum was sponsored by the International Society for Energy Transition Studies (ISETS), organized by the Institute of Science and Development, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and co-organized by the Climate Finance Research Branch of the Chinese Society of Optimization, Overall Planning and Economic Mathematics,together with the School of Economics and Management of the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences. With the theme of “Managing global Resource Risks in the Post-pandemic Era”, the forum held three keynote presentations and seven forum presentations. The forum, which was held online and broadcasted live on the Kouxiang academic platform, attracted more than 700 experts and scholars from more than 30 universities and research institutions, including Chinese Academy of Sciences, Tianjin University, China University of Petroleum (Beijing), China University of Geosciences (Beijing).

During the opening ceremony, Shi Xunpeng, President of the International Society for Energy Transition Studies (ISETS), and Yang Hui, Vice president of the Institute of Science and Development, Chinese Academy of Sciences, delivered speeches on behalf of the organizer. Professor Zhang Zhongxiang, Founder Dean of Ma Yinchu School of Economics, Tianjin University; Professor Wang Jianliang, Dean of School of Business Administration, China University of Petroleum (Beijing); and Professor Gao Xiangyun, Vice Dean of School of Economics and Management, China University of Geosciences (Beijing) were invited to the keynote speech. Professor Zhang shared his in-depth observations and reflections on the operating conditions of the carbon market since the opening of the national carbon market, and put forward some countermeasures and suggestions for accelerating the construction of the carbon market. Professor Wang analyzed the potential supply and demand of oil and natural gas in three scenarios under China’s two-carbon target, and systematically measured China’s carbon emissions at the production side of each level of block, industry, region and country. Professor Gao systematically introduces the effects of mineral resource trade and price changes on our economy, and shares the research result on the optimization of mineral resource trade network structure.

Professor Sun Xiaolei, Associate Professor Guo Kun and Associate Professor Xia Yan presided over the forum report session. Prof. He Xinju, Associate Professor Yao Xiaoyang, Prof. Liao Xianchun, Associate Professor Song Yazhi, Dr. Tang Jie, Associate Professor Yuan Yongna and Dr. Yang Yuying respectively focused on power transmission and environmental improvement, climate risk perception and hedging strategies, green credit and low-carbon enterprise financing, carbon tax and carbon market construction, hydrogen energy industry, energy security and carbon emission reduction synergies, key mineral trade She gave a wonderful report on competition and other topics, and had full discussion and in-depth communication with the invited reviewers of the forum.

At this forum, the experts and scholars participating in the forum fully exchanged ideas, pooled wisdom, gathered broader consensus, and provided more wisdom support for China to maintain energy and resources security and realize comprehensive green transformation in the post-COVID-19 era.
