The second ISETS Forum (Wuhan) 

China’s Energy Price Market Reform under the ‘Dual Carbon’ goals

The second ISETS Forum (Wuhan) was successfully held online on November 7, 2021, as the main forum brand of the International Society for Energy Transition Studies (ISETS), with the aim of creating a platform for multi-stakeholder dialogue and academic exchange on energy transition with global influence, and promoting transition of energy industry and its related industries towards an equitable and inclusive low-carbon future.

The forum was co-organized by the Economic Research Institute of Wuhan University, the Population-Resource-Environment Economic Research Center of Wuhan University, and the Two-Oriented Society Research Institute of Wuhan University. The forum attracted more than 120 scholars from the Institute of Science and Development of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Tianjin University, Sun Yat-sen University, Xiamen University, Central South University, Southwest University of Finance and Economics, Macau University of Science and Technology, Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, Huazhong Agricultural University, Central China Normal University, China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) and other universities. The significant increase of the scale of the participating scholars marked the rapid increase of the forum‘s influence.

The forum focused on the theme of “China’s Energy Price Market Reform under the ‘Dual Carbon’ goals”. Professor Yang Mian, Director of the Economic Research Institute, Economics and Management School of Wuhan University, presided over the opening ceremony, and Professor Ji Qiang, Vice President of ISETS, and Professor Liu Cheng, Assistant Dean of Economics and Management School of Wuhan University, delivered opening speeches. The keynote speech, given by Prof. Zhang Dayong, was on “Energy Transition: Challenges, Opportunities and Options”.

The following paper discussion session had 8 selected papers to be presented. Researcher Xia Yan from the Institute of Science and Development of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Yu Jinhan from Southwest University of Finance and Economics, and Professor Yang Fuxia from Huazhong Agricultural University hosted the session in turns. There were 8 young scholars sharing their working papers successively, from Wuhan University, Northwest University, Southwestern University of Finance and Economics, Macau University of Science and Technology, Nanjing Audit University, Qilu University of Technology, China University of Geosciences (Wuhan), Hubei University of Economics. Professor Sun Chuanwang from Xiamen University, Researcher Sun Xiaolei from Institute for Strategic Consulting in Science and Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Li Changsheng from Qingdao University of Science and Technology, Professor Geng Jiangbo from Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, Professor Wan Panbing (Assistant) from Wuhan University, Professor Yang Fuxia from Huazhong Agricultural University, Professor Zhao Xiaomeng (Assistant) from Central China Normal University, and Researcher Li Jun from Sun Yat-sen University made excellent comments on these papers.

The participating scholars enthusiastically discussed the papers with each other. They exchanged their academic ideas, sought paths to solve problems and made a lot of suggestions for the participating papers. In the end, Prof. Zhang Dayong from Southwest University of Finance and Economics and Prof. Yang Coronel from Wuhan University delivered closing remarks on behalf of the host and the co-organizer respectively, expressing their sincere gratitude to the participating scholars. Thus, ISETS second Energy Transition Forum (Wuhan) successfully concluded.
