The Seventh ISETS Energy Transition Forum

The Realistic Challenges and Path Selection of Energy Transition

20 Nov 2022,China

On 20 Nov 2022, the Seventh ISETS Energy Transition Forum was held virtually. The forum was hosted by ISETS, the School of Economics and Management of China University of Mining and Technology (CUMT), and the Carbon Neutrality & Energy Strategy Think Tank of CUMT. It was co-hosted by the China Energy Finance Network and the Climate Finance Research Branch of Chinese Society of Optimization, Overall Planning and Economical Mathematics. More than 300 experts and scholars presented in the virtual meeting room.

The frequent occurrence of energy crises and extreme weather has brought severe challenges to the energy transition. “Coordinating Supply Security and Low-carbon Transition” has become an inevitable choice for sustainable energy development. Focusing on low-carbon energy transition and energy supply security in an uncertain environment, this forum pays attention to energy transition from multi-dimensional perspectives such as politics, economy, environment, society, sci-tech, and region. It includes energy transition driving mechanism, carbon market and energy transition, fossil energy industry transition, low-cost coal reduction path, orderly development and reliable supply of new energy, regional energy transition strategy, and energy transition risk.

The forum featured four keynote speeches and seven presentations on the issues “Realistic Challenges and Path Selection of Energy Transition”. Four experts from the China National Coal Association, University of International Business and Economics, Nanyang Technological University, and Beijing Institute of Technology discussed the energy transition of coal, oil and gas, maritime and the path to improve quality and reduce carbon under the goal of carbon neutrality. Other participants also shared views on the influencing factors and the path to the energy transition based on their latest research results.
