Conference Introduction
On December 16, the International Conference on Carbon Peak and High-Quality Development Theories and Practices, as well as the Twelfth ISETS Energy Transition Forum, was successfully held in Nanchang. The conference was organized by Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics and the International Society for Energy Transition Studies (ISETS), and was hosted by the School of Economics, the Institute of Ecological Economics, the Xi Jinping Economic Thought Research Institute at Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics, and the Institute of Modernization of China Agriculture and Rural Areas at Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics.
The conference, guided by the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, focused on the theme of “Carbon Peak and High-Quality Development Theories and Practices,” aiming to discuss energy transition under the theme of high-quality development.

- Dr. Yang Yang from the School of Economics chaired the first phase’s thematic presentation. Professor Fang Tao from Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada, outlined the risks and challenges of climate change and introduced corresponding adaptation and mitigation strategies. Researcher Zhang Haipeng from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences discussed the topic of promoting high-quality development through modernizing forestry, analyzing how modernizing forestry can provide strong support for high-quality development through aspects such as technological innovation, optimization of industrial structure, ecological protection and restoration, and deepening reforms. Professor James Cheong from the Hang Seng University of Hong Kong conducted research based on the artificial neural network China Environmental Kuznets Curve model and explained the relevant models. Professor Chen Chong from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, explored the green pathway to carbon neutrality from the perspective of a garden city. Professor Kaveh Khalipour from the University of Technology Sydney, Australia, analyzed carbon capture, storage, and utilization processes within the context of market integration challenges.
- Dr. Lu Yang from the School of Economics chaired the thematic presentation of the second phase. Researcher Zhong Yu from the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences analyzed the logic behind grain production, fertilizer input, and reduction in land area using relevant evidence. Professor Yao Lin Wang from the University of Melbourne, Australia, explored research collaboration opportunities between China and Australia in the context of China’s dual carbon goals. Professor Pan Dan, Director of the Institute of Ecological Economics at Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics, empirically analyzed waste management in rural China and discussed future management directions. Dr. Natalia Sarakhanova from Saint Petersburg State University of Economics, Russia, analyzed sustainable transportation transformation from the perspective of energy transition, aiming to enhance transportation efficiency and reduce pollution. Professor Nophea Sasaki from the Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand discussed campus net-zero emissions based on nature-based and technology-based strategies.
- Professor Li Guomin from the School of Economics chaired the third phase of the Young Scholars Forum. Associate Professor Zeng Yongming from the School of Economics, in conjunction with evidence from the National Big Data Comprehensive Pilot Zone, discussed how data elements promote efficient development in enterprises. Associate Professor Peng Jiquan from the School of Economics explored how the construction of high-standard farmland promotes high-quality agricultural development. Associate Professor Chen Su from Journal of Contemporary Finance and Economics analyzed some adaptive behaviors of agricultural households in response to climate change under the constraint of the “dual carbon” target. Dr. Zhang Qin from the School of Economics and Management at Jiangxi Agricultural University conducted a spatial impact study on agricultural carbon productivity based on provincial panel data in China. Dr. Sun Guangzhao from the School of Economics, based on the reality of China, analyzed the contribution of digital transformation of enterprises to high-quality development under the background of carbon neutrality.
